Why we shed our INAAhibitions for the Naked Office

I guess deep down I always wanted to do my own thing.  Even at school I was a bit of a rebel and usually just ahead of the latest trend.  So in starting my own company – INAA.com –  I welcomed the freedom of decision-making and the challenge of building something from nothing.  Of course, only when you feel the pain of no regular income and many late nights, coupled with lots of soul searching, do you really know that being on your own brings its own set of conundrums.

Hell bent on improving services to the hair and beauty business by developing inexpensive software to operate an online booking portal, we were working full throttle when Shine Productions first approached us.  They asked if we would help them make a TV programme about businesses in a recession.

The Ten Bridal Commandments

Tags: wedding | big day | hair | care | preparation | essential | guidelines

Thought ah would touch – base this week with regards to all you “Blushing Brides” out there, not forgetting obviously the Bridesmaids as well.

In all my years working as a hairdresser in the very top salons in Glasgow the common factor in any salon ah ever worked in is that Bridal Parties can be THE most difficult clients – whether it’s actually the Bride herself or the Bride’s Mother or even another member of the party. There is almost always someone who creates a problem on the big day!!

So.... here is a qualified suggestion on how to avoid ANY hiccups with hairdo’s on the day.

The only umbrella to be seen with this April

With Spring finally here, I was delighted to be able to dawn my sunglasses the other day to meet my friend for coffee. I walked with my freshly blow-dried hair bouncing and a spring in my step to match. Everyone feels better when it’s sunny!

I had spoken too soon, as usual. Just as I’d got used to feeling the sun on my back, the clouds crept in and loomed over me, threatening to burst. Before I knew it, a familiar nightmare unfolded in front of me; I had a ten-minute walk to coffee and I was about to be caught in the rain without an umbrella.

If, like me, you have naturally curly/wavy, frizz-prone hair you will well understand my pain. My hair frizzes at the mere sight of rain through the window. It has been a long struggle, growing up with hair that has a mind of its own. Smooth-haired friends wave a nonchalant hand when it starts to spit lightly and look at me as if I’m mad as I frantically attempt to turn my scarf into an ‘elegant headscarf’. On holiday, I always had to see others sporting those perfect surf-babe waves while I slathered more serum on my hair and concentrated my best efforts on stopping it from ‘rising’.

So, with sporadic, drizzly weather on it’s way, I thought I’d share a few tips to keep your hair in check. If you follow them, it should save you having to whip up your umbrella at the slightest detection of moisture.

A Holistic Outlook

Tags: Holistic Therapy | Holistic Threatment | Natural | Ancient | Reiki | Healing

Greetings!

Last week I attended an appointment with my doctor. A lovely woman, with a great sense of humour, a caring manner and a wonderful doctor. And she refers fondly to my trade as “hokey-pokey medicine” and jokes often that I must have run out of mandrake if I come to her. She doesn't mean it offensively but it does bring to the fore a very real fact; there are still many people who have no idea what Holistic Therapy is and many more who dismiss it as ...well...hokey-pokey.

So what it is then? It is referred to by many names ..'complementary' 'alternative' 'holistic' – none of which mean anything to anyone who has never experienced such treatment before. Complementary to modern medicine? An alternative to the norm? Maybe. But the best way I can describe Holistic Therapy is it promotes a sense of overall well-being to not just the physical body but also the mind and spirit. It is a entire healing of heart, body and soul, using energy healing and massage. Its that simple. And its not a new concept but it has been misunderstood. Modern medicine was derived from plants and herbs yet many innocents lost their lives, accused of witchery, simply for  using nature's gifts to help others. Thankfully, we live in a more enlightened time now, and in a world in which many are returning to the basics and natural products. Organic, unprocessed food. Meat-free alternatives. Incense sticks instead of air-fresheners. Plant extract medicinal aids, such as muscle relaxants and sleeping tablets. Chemical-free beauty products that use only natural ingredients. We all use them. Returning to the ways of the ancestors and do we not feel better for it?
