The Amazing Benefits of Coconut Oil

Oh, how we love coconut oil. It smells like a beach vacation, hydrates dry elbows and cuticles, and–maybe the best benefit of all–improves the health of your hair! Let’s take a closer look at this amazing multitasking natural oil to see how it can work for you.
How does coconut oil work?
Scientists have studied the effects of certain oils on hair (including coconut, sunflower, olive and mineral). And the results for coconut oil are pretty exciting–it has been shown to actually have the ability to penetrate hair. So why does this matter? Most hair products and ingredients can only coat the surface of the hair to add shine, smoothness, conditioning, etc. However, coconut oil – because of its chemical structure, can actually penetrate the cortex (the inner part of hair) which can help improve its strength and flexibility.
This means hair is less likely to break and less likely to get damaged from combing and even heat styling! Another benefit: coconut oil has super staying power. Since most oils and hair ingredients sit on top of your hair, they rinse off when you suds up your mane. Not coconut oil! It’s “inside” your hair, so it’s less likely to rinse away. If you have dry, damaged hair and are susceptible to hair loss and breakage then you should definitely stock up on coconut oil.
Is coconut oil hard to find?
Nope! It’s already in a ton of relatively affordable hair care products. Look for leave-in products that list coconut oil as one of the top two or three ingredients. If it’s listed low on the list, then you won’t really get much benefit.
Even better: try using pure organic coconut oil. You can find it at natural food stores and online. For around £10 you’ll have enough coconut oil to last you for a year! Just be sure to use sparingly and only apply to the ends of your hair. I apply it to my damp hair before I heat style. The only downside – Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, but it does melt easily. I recommend melting some over low heat (or in the microwave) and then transferring to a small jar to make it easier to use and easier to transport. Before applying to your hair, just use the heat of your hands to warm it up.
Are there other downsides?
Just one more: Because coconut oil penetrates hair, it doesn’t do such a good job at coating the outside of your strands (the cuticles), so you’ll still want to use a rinse-out conditioner to help smooth cuticles and add shine.
Bottom Line
Coconut oil is a great (and natural!) way to help improve the health of your hair and your skin. Try it out, your hair and body will be sure to thank you!

The Benefits of Phyto-Caffeine Shampoos

Plantur39 -As we get older our hair starts to lose volume and lustre. This is because until we reach menopause, a woman’s hair roots are protected by high levels of female hormones (estrogen). After menopause, these hormone levels will decline and the impact of male hormones will increase.

Let’s be honest, we all struggle to get that glow during these gloomy months! So if you are not lucky enough to be getting away to some winter sun here are INAA’s tips and tricks for that desired GLOWING skin.

The best time to apply lotion is s right after a shower or bath, when skin is still damp so get out of that shower or bath and get applying. Exfoliate with a body scrub once a week to slough off dead cells that make skin look dull. “Remove those plugs, and they seem to shrink.” When skin is freshly exfoliated, lotion and oil are better absorbed “Pores appear larger when they’re filled with dirt, oil, dead skin cells, and keratin, a protein that lives on the surface of skin’ Personally I use a scrub with a exfoliating mit to get that added fresh feeling from head to toe!

Let’s be honest beautiful skin really starts from within, even if you are using the most high-tech, expensive brands: if you diet is off it will show first up on your skin! So, Include lots of vegetables, fruit and water in your diet, We know this sounds like an obvious tip that everyone knows but put down those french fries, stock up on green veg especially broccoli and drink that extra glass of water every day! Nuts are also good for nibbling, Brazil nuts especially they are rich in selenium, which increases skin elasticity and may decrease skin cancer (according to recent studies) Throw in walnuts—which are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids—to lower inflammation and put the brakes on breakouts,Finally, add some macadamia. “They’re full of high quality oils and fatty acids that aid in skin repair and rejuvenation” Aim for a handful of each daily to reap their pore-perfecting benefits.

Another tip I think is KEY that not all women live by: CLEAN YOUR MAKE UP BRUSHES!!! I cannot stress this enough, a shocking fact is that A British study found that 72% of women never wash their brushes or sponges, even though they collect dirt and bacteria which can cause breakouts! Make it part of your beauty regime! Once a week, Mix a couple of drops of gentle facial cleanser or shampoo and lukewarm water in a cup, swish your brushes around, rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry, and lay flat to air dry over night!!

STOP TOUCHING YOUR FACE!!! Keep those paws off the money-maker!! Every time you press against a spot or what you think is going to be a spot, it causes inflammation and distress to the skin. At the same time, bacteria is pushed deep inside the pore, and the oil glands burst, causing even more trauma. The result? More acne, plus discoloration and scarring. NOT what we are aiming for ladies I think you will agree!!

AT HOME FACE MASK: WHIP UP A BERRY TASTY TREAT FOR YOUR SKIN
A powerful (cheap!) anti-aging potion is lurking right in your fridge. Raspberries are loaded with ellagic acid, an antioxidant that research shows can prevent wrinkles when applied to the skin. “It protects the collagen that keeps skin plump and beautiful from being worn down by the sun,” Add in honey, a natural humectant that holds water against the skin for maximum moisture, and you’ve got a recipe for gorgeous, dewy skin. Mash up a handful of raspberries with a spoonful of honey, and apply the mask to clean skin for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and pat dry.

With the INAA team split unfairly with blondes and brunette’s (our founder being blonde herself) The latter of the team with be pleased to know that NYFW is the conformation that in fact Blonde’s have more fun this season.

We see many trends grace the catwalk, but none that has been more predominant in new york than the ashy blonde hair. Models that we know and love with blonde hair ruling the roost, we have even had brunette’s debuting there new hair whilst they open up some of the biggest shows like DKNY and Jason Wu.

So ladies, is it time for that change you have been talking about?

The Superbowl, now we are no sport experts here at INAA, but something we always tune into every year is the Superbowl! WOW is the title to this post for a reason and WOW is all that can be said for that. The half time show was epic to say the least!!

Power couple Jay Z & Beyonce: a force not to be reckoned with for this exact reason, Apparently the married couple’s new years resolution was in fact to become vegan & if this is the result shall we all just never eat steak again? They opened the show and opened it they did.

January, the month we all set ourselves up for a predictable loss. Over christmas and new year we over indulge, guilt free and quite rightly so! Whatever your vice may be, Wine chocolate or christmas pudding! But January is the month we all promise ourselves as women that it will be ‘that month’ we start our new healthy lifestyle, new year resolutions are in full swing, but are you setting unrealistic goals? Most Probably! I think with the change in year and whats looked upon as a fresh start it’s our opportunity to really turn over a new leaf, get that mind body & soul we are always talking about.

 So, if like many others you have fallen at the first hurdle, think about this. Feeling good about yourself doesn’t have to depend on training in the gym like a victoria’s secret angel or ‘dieting’ like a runway model, small changes can really go a long way and will stick more so than if you set yourself unrealistic targets.

John Frieda – New Product Test

Team INAA were excited to be chosen to test some fab new John Frieda Hair (of course) Products from their Full Repair, Hydrate & Rescue range, designed to improve damaged hair with Inca Inchi Oil  rich in omega-3.  Ruthie took up the challenge and this is her review!

The Shampoo

Its a white creamy formula that smells of peaches and roses so loving it . . . shampooing hair is so important after all it’s how you prep your hair for styling. I would say that it is one of the most important products you can use on your hair. However what I love most about it is how strong it makes my hair feel. As I am using it I can really feel it getting into the hair and giving it a good wash. It foams really well so you only need a little amount!  Did you know that we over use shampoo by around 70% in volume,  so cut down on the amount girls and save some pennies at the same time.

The Conditioner

Again that wonderful aroma of the conditioner reminding me of a beautiful Summers day . . .  it was easy to pull through my hair and rinsed off in an instant. The finished result was great!  Even the first time I used it, my hair felt so strong and shiny, it reminded me of how my hair used to feel when I was a lot younger. The combination of the conditioner and shampoo left my hair strong and thick, and my curls were big, bouncy and soft. Full Repair shampoo and conditioner is fast becoming a favourite of mine and I’m trying my best to make my tubes last as long as possible!

The Oil

I have to confess to being a bit of an Argan oil fan but for my fly away hair I have to be very careful or my hair becomes overly laden . . . with the Repairing Oil Elixir though, I felt it actually penetrated into the hair shaft and did not weigh down my hair in any way. The oil contains Inca Inchi Oil; one of the highest sources of omega fatty acids in the world and contains 47 x more Omega-3 than Argan Oil (according to the label) so there you have it . . .  I am a true convert!
